Fisher: Texans Defense Exceptional Job
By Bethany Mitchell, Decemer 6, 2006

With last weeks victory over Oakland, the Houston Texans became the first team in 25 years to win a game with negative net-yards passing and they have their defense to thank.

In recent weeks, the Texans' defense has been playing much better than their offense. Last week against the Raiders, the Texans' defense forced five turnovers and tied their season high with five sacks. A few weeks prior, the Texans' defense managed to hold the NY Giants, ranked 8th defensively in the NFL, to 300 yards of total offense and only 14 points.

Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said that the Texans defense has played well in past weeks.

"Their defense is playing exceptionally well," Fisher said. "The last seven games they are sixth in total defense. They are fifth or sixth in points allowed."

Fisher also said the defense has grown since their last meeting against the Titans in week 7.

"The have really come on prior to our first meeting. That would include their win against Jacksonville. They have done a really nice job."

On the defensive side, the Texans have first round draft pick defensive end Mario Williams. The former NC State player left college as a junior to enter into the NFL Draft. Williams has had 25 tackles and 4.5 sacks in his first season in the NFL.

The Texans also have rookie middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans. Last week, Ryans recovered and forced a fumble, intercepted a pass, recorded a sack and registered a game-high 15 tackles, 14 unassisted against Oakland.

The Titans travel to Houston to face off against the Texans Sunday at 12:00 CST.
