Bironas Special Teams Player of the Week
Staff Report December 5, 2006

Titans kicker Rob Bironas was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Tuesday.

The second-year kicker nailed a 60-yard game-winning field goal to give the Titans a 20-17 win over the Colts. The kick set a new franchise record for the longest field goal made, which was previously held by Al Del Greco when he connected on a 56-yarder against the 49ers in 1996.

Bironas became only the sixth player to kick a 60-yard field goal or longer in NFL history and the third player from that elite group to hit a game-winner. The field goal was Bironas’ second game-winner in as many weeks as he drilled a 49 yarder on Nov. 26 against the Giants, giving Tennessee a 24-21 victory.

Bironas spent two seasons in the Arena Football League and one season in Af2 before joining the Titans in 2005. In his first season in the NFL, he led Tennessee in scoring with 99 points, making 23 of 29 field goals and 30 of 32 extra points.

The 60-yard boot was the longest attempt of his two-year NFL career. His previous career long was 53 yards at Arizona in 2005.

On the year, Bironas is 13 of 17 on field goals and 22 of 22 on extra points.
